Omapere

Omapere is a beautiful, white sand beach at the mouth of the Hokianga Harbour, on the west coast of NZ. Wayne and I chose to get married here because we have often traveled up here for romantic getaways and weekends away and have some beautiful memories associated with this place. We both agreed that our wedding needed to be relaxed and outside the hustle and bustle of the city, and being that I am northland born and bred, we looked upwards and outwards for a venue. Early in the year we went on a Sunday drive with Mum and Dad and ended up at the Copthorne in Omapere – we were blown away by the beauty and sub-tropical feel of the resort – it was as if we were in Rarotonga! It was perfect and had a little sparkle of holiday magic hanging in the air – we booked it in straight away!

As Wayne proposed to me while we were away in South East Asia last January, it is important our engagement and wedding reflects some of the fun and special memories of our holiday, and the significance of spending quality time with your loved one. The vibrant setting and chilled out, beach atmosphere is exactly how we pictured our wedding. We hope that all our guests settle into the vacation spirit and take this not only as time to celebrate our wedding, but to reconnect with each other and enjoy a weekend away.

The hotel is situated at Omapere, on the waters edge of  Hokianga Harbour, with a stunning view to huge sand dunes across the bay. Its the perfect place for us to be married and have all our friends and whanau together to celebrate. 3 hours from Auckland, this is an amazing place and we hope you will love it as much as we do.

While Omapere is a small beachside town, it joins up to Opononi and between the two there is ample accommodation. You can stay at the Copthorne and enjoy being directly on the beach  and at the wedding location. However, if you are in a large group or would prefer to stay in somewhere more on a budget there are plenty of baches, camping grounds and hotels all within walking distance. The Copthorne will be running a complimentary shuttle on the night of the wedding to escort you back to your accommodation. Please see the Accommodation page for more details.

“The Hokianga harbour remains a relatively untouched land of contrasts, from lush kauri forests, sun-burnt sand dunes and calm harbour waters to surf breaks on the sandbar and its own subtropical microclimate - a haven with a special beauty and spirit of its own.”
